Low Sulphur Heavy Stock (LSHS)
Low Sulphur Heavy Stock (LSHS) is a fuel oil specifically designed for industrial use, characterized by its low sulfur content. It is a by-product of the refining process of crude oil, often used in furnaces, boilers, and other high-temperature applications where fuel with minimal sulfur emissions is desired.
Advantages
1. Environmentally Friendly:
- Low sulfur content reduces SOx emissions, minimizing air pollution.
2. Efficient Combustion:
- High calorific value ensures cost-effective heat generation.
3. Less Maintenance:
- Lower ash and deposit formation reduce equipment maintenance needs.
Disadvantages
1. Specialized Storage Requirements:
- Requires insulated storage tanks to prevent solidification at lower temperatures.
2. Initial Heating:
- Pre-heating may be necessary for pumping and optimal combustion.
3. Availability:
- Limited availability compared to other fuel oils, depending on the region.
Storage and Handling
- Temperature Control: LSHS should be stored at a temperature above its pour point (approximately 50–60°C) to maintain fluidity.
- Storage Tanks: Insulated or heated tanks are recommended.
