Rubber Processing Oil
Rubber Processing Oil (RPO) is a specialized lubricant used in the manufacture of rubber products. It serves as a plasticizer, lubricant, and softener to enhance the workability of rubber during processing and improve the performance of the final product. RPO is derived from petroleum fractions and is a critical raw material in industries such as tire manufacturing, footwear, and molded rubber products.
Types of Rubber Processing Oils
Aromatic Rubber Processing Oil:
- High aromatic content (20–40%).
- Dark in color with a distinct odor.
- Excellent compatibility with rubber polymers.
- Commonly used in the manufacture of tires, tubes, and conveyor belts.
Paraffinic Rubber Processing Oil:
- High paraffinic content with low aromatic compounds.
- Light in color and odorless.
- Offers high oxidation and thermal stability.
- Used in light-colored and transparent rubber products.
Naphthenic Rubber Processing Oil:
- Intermediate properties between aromatic and paraffinic oils.
- Balanced solvency and flexibility.
- Suitable for synthetic rubber and various industrial rubber products.
